Maintenance of Wool and Shearing
Wool is the main source of income for new shepherds.
Good management of the sale of wool is essential for success in the kingdom.
Each day the wool of the sheep grows one centimetre, whatever the race of the sheep.
When the wool exceeds 11 cm, the sheep loses 0.5kg per day because its wool holds too much heat, so you are advised to shear after 11 cm in length, but it is not obligatory.
The shepherd can shear his sheep as soon as it has 1 cm of wool. This is resold at the market at a price depending on the value of wool at the time and its quality. When one shears a sheep and sells the wool, 2 fetis are taken for transport.
The sale price of wool is given by this formula (in fetis):
profit = ((value * length * quality)/10) - 2
- The value of wool varies each day, generally between 2.7 and 4.5 fetis.
- Quality can vary from 0 to 20, it is up to the breeder to make it increase with the help of brushing and shampoos.
- Certain breeds of sheep are characterised by a no-claims bonus or malus on the quality of wool; thus the wool of an angora can reach a quality of 22.5/20, whilst that of the speckled sheep cannot exceed a quality of 16/20.
- When the quality of wool is close to its maximum, it increases very slowly.
